Forestry England is creating a new woodland at Haverah Park, near Harrogate in Yorkshire. This new Coronation Wood will commemorate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. The 35-hectare woodland is between Beckwithshaw and Killinghall and will be open for informal public access for local people to enjoy alongside being a thriving home for wildlife and a site for sustainably-grown timber.
Work in progress at Haverah
The new woodland will be a valuable place for timber, wildlife, and local communities. The land is being planted with a mixture of broadleaf and conifer tree species, chosen to match local soil types and expected future climate conditions. The landscape design will also include open space for conservation and visual appeal and retain important views to the North York Moors.
The woodland at Haverah is an important part of the work that we're doing here at Forestry England to expand the nation’s forests as part of the Nature for Climate Fund.
Haverah consultation and plans
In summer 2024 we shared draft designs for the new woodland and invited feedback from local people. This feedback can be viewed here.
As of February 2025, fencing and tree planting is underway and we will continue managing the new woodland as these young trees grow.
