Wellbeing walks at Bedgebury Pinetum
Wellbeing walks at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest provide a beautiful opportunity to connect with nature, stretch your legs, and forge new friendships.
What to expect
These gentle guided walks last approximately 60 minutes and are designed to be as inclusive as possible. Our trained volunteer walk leaders will help you walk at your own pace while fostering a supportive and comfortable atmosphere for everyone in the group. Each week, you'll explore a new route, uncovering hidden gems within the stunning National Pinetum.
You'll be welcomed by a friendly group, and after the walk, feel free to stay for a chat and a cup of tea!
Why does walking among trees improve wellbeing?
Beyond keeping active and building social connections, research also shows that time spent in nature, and forests in particular, can have a dramatic effect on people’s overall wellbeing.
Studies into the practice of ‘forest bathing’, or Shirin Yoku, in Korea and Japan have shown that even short-term exposure to the forest by taking a gentle walk, can enhance positive emotions, lower blood pressure and heart rate and reduced stress hormones.
