1. Callywith Wood Walk - Cardinham Woods, Cornwall

Cardinham Woods provides the perfect place to relax. To reach the viewpoint on the Callywith Wood Walk trail, follow a pleasant stream then gradually climb up the slopes past some of the oldest conifer trees in the woods. Look out for the viewpoint halfway round, offering views across the valley of Cardinham Water towards its source on Bodmin Moor. It's a perfect spot to watch the foliage change during the seasons, or to simply pause, notice and connect with the forest environment around you.

2. Sherwood Pines, Nottinghamshire

Heights aren't always the blueprint for a fantastic forest viewpoint. If you venture deep down the winding paths of Sherwood Pines, you'll stumble across woodland cabins with perfectly framed views from their windows. The dappled morning sunlight streams through the canopy to create an impressive view to admire over your morning cuppa.

The forest is yours to explore at Sherwood Pines. Try disc golf, forest bathingziplining through the treetops at Go Ape or a walk through the woods.

3. Discovery Trail viewpoint - Haldon Forest, near Exeter

Just 15 minutes from Exeter and Newton Abbott, Haldon Forest Park has plenty of woodland to explore.

For a unique vantage point of the expansive scenery of Dartmoor National Park, our recommendation is the Buller’s Hill stop on the Discovery Trail. Take to the trail by foot, bike or tramper to discover a spectacular view of a patchwork quilt of green hues as far as the eye can see. With children’s play features and picnic benches stationed at the viewpoint, it is the perfect location for a family afternoon of playful escapades and serene connections with nature.

4. Blackwood Forest, near Winchester

Blackwood Forest is the perfect place to unwind. Time it right and immerse yourself in a sea of bluebells in the spring, and spend the day den building, wandering the woods, and climbing hills to reach magnificent viewpoints.

5. Carron Crag, Grizedale

As the highest point in Grizedale at 314 metres, the climb to Carron Crag is well worth the hike. Follow the circular trail to absorb the unique panoramic views of the mountains and fells across the Lake District, Howgills and Morecambe Bay.

6. Symonds Yat, Wye Valley

Look familiar? The cinematic beauty of the Wye Valley makes it a popular choice among the film industry, with Symond’s Yat most notably appearing in Netflix’s Sex Education. Find out more about filming locations around the Forest of Dean and plan a visit to bring the beauty from the screen to life.

The panoramic view of the River Wye surrounded by scenic countryside isn’t the only thing that might take your breath away at Symonds Yat Rock. This viewpoint is one of the best places in the country to spot Peregrine Falcons and many other birds of prey.

7. Wow Trail viewpoint – Whinlatter Forest, Lake District

Look out over the picturesque landscapes of England’s largest National Park as you wander our Whinlatter Wow trail. Catch a glimpse of the native wildlife and discover the enthralling story of the nation’s only mountain forest.

8. New Fancy, Forest of Dean.

Another great spot for watching birds of prey soaring in the skies above. The viewpoint at New Fancy boasts an incredible view from what was formerly the site of the New Fancy coal mine.

Walk on the Geomap and discover the underlying geology of the forest. Bring your bikes to explore the sprawling woodland on the Family Cycle Trail, or pack a picnic and see the ‘Roll of Honour’ sculpture up close.

9. Kilburn Woods, North Yorkshire

Experience panoramic views and visit the iconic Kilburn White Horse at Kilburn Woods. There are two trails to choose from – the Hood Hill Walk will take you on a loop through mixed woodland and bring you out in the car park, rewarding you with the iconic view of the White Horse. Alternatively, the White Horse Walk will take you up the steps right beside the White Horse itself, leading to stunning views across Hood Hill and Lake Gormire.

10. Ennerdale, Lake District National Park

Lying on the northwestern edge of the Lake District National Park, Ennerdale is home to picturesque views over the peaks and waters of the Lake District.

The Ennerdale Views trail is littered with viewpoints to stop and take in the stunning lake and mountain views, with plenty of benches for rest along the way.

11. Bedgebury National Pinetum

From the vivid brick red of the Dawn Redwoods in autumn to the blossom of Great White Cherry trees in spring, there is always something to see at Bedgebury. Take the long loop of the accessible Pinetum trail and pause at the picnic bench next to Marshall’s Lake to marvel at the reflection of the deciduous conifer trees in the water.

12. Dalby Forest, North York Moors National Park

What’s better than the view of a beautiful woodland lake? Take the Lakeside trail at Dalby Forest, circling Staindale Lake along boardwalks and well-surfaced paths to get to the viewpoint on the west end of the lake. Here you can stop at a bench to enjoy the scenery of the tranquil blue waters and towering trees, and spot the wildlife on the birdfeeders.
