Bramshill Plantation

Visitor information

Award-winning plantation with thriving habitats and wildlife

Incredible to believe that this area was once a quarry, used for extracting gravel. Since 2000 it has been gradually restored and open habitats maintained across the landscape, including the creation of ponds and a mosaic of wooded areas.

Bramshill Plantation is leased to Forestry England and has won awards for excellence in forestry. The ponds here also play a vital role by storing carbon and are nationally recognised by the British Dragonfly Society for the incredible variety of dragonflies.

It’s a favourite spot for ground-nesting birds, one of the reasons that much of the area is a Special Protection Area for birds. Our ongoing program of managing the forest provides the right habitat for breeding nightjar, Dartford warbler and woodlark.
