Horse riding at Friston Forest

Horse riding at Friston Forest

Friston Forest offers some of the best riding in the south of England; with a wealth of trails and connections to the South Downs.

From May 2025 equestrians can enjoy riding off bridleway on gravel tracks throughout Friston Forest without requiring any permit from Forestry England or TROT.

When current TROT permits expire (31 April 2025) the de-boxing facility will no longer be available. This is because it is no longer suitable for equestrians and we need to prioritise our limited resources elsewhere. De-boxing within the car parks will not be permitted.

We are looking at alternative measures to provide de-boxing facilities local to Friston Forest. Updates will be posted here when we have more information.

There are 3 de-boxing facilities within the local team’s remit that will remain available, they are in: Bedgebury Forest, Hemsted Forest and King’s Wood. Please follow the links to their pages for more information.

For more information on our facilities, opening times and contact details, please see our visitor information.
