Growing the nation's forests

Forestry England are creating a new Coronation Wood at East Worth, in Devon, to commemorate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. The 29.8-hectare woodland is near the village of Northlew. The woodland at East Worth is an important part of the work that we're doing at Forestry England to expand the nation’s forests, and will be created through the Nature for Climate Fund.

The new woodland will be a valuable place for timber, wildlife and local communities. The land is being planted with tree species chosen to match local soil types and expected future climate conditions. The landscape design will aim to improve the site for nature conservation.

In summer 2024, we shared draft designs for the new woodland and invited feedback from local people. You can view the feedback here.

As of February 2025, fencing and tree planting is underway and we will continue managing the new woodland as these young trees grow.
