The Dormouse play area has been designed primarily with pre-school children in mind, although we have included elements that will also challenge and engage older pre-teens, enabling siblings and friends of different ages to play together.
Featuring a sandpit for digging, exploring and shaping their surroundings, space has been made by the sand table for children in wheelchairs to access the sand play. In the centre of the play space is our interpretation of a dormouse's nest which features tactile elements and the chance for imaginative play. The nest can be accessed via transferring from a wheelchair.
Children who aren't quite ready to join in with the play can observe from the raised platforms surrounded by vegetation - a haven from background noise and movement, And a series of traversing ropes, balance logs and stepping logs lead players around a foraging trail as they discover the favourite snacks of the dormice that call Fineshade Wood their home.
